Simon Matskeplishvili graduated with honors from the Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy in 1994, completed the fellowship in cardiology at the Bakoulev Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery in Moscow, and mastership in cardiology and cardiac surgery at the Institute of Clinical Physiology of the National Research Council of Italy and Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy, followed by a fellowship in interventional cardiology and electrophysiology. He received a PhD degree in 1999, a Doctor of Science degree in 2002, a European Cardiologist degree in 2001, full professor of cardiology in 2007. In 2012 he received the Government Prize of the Russian Federation in science and technology for the development of new mathematical algorithms and a new non-invasive method for the evaluation of intracardiac blood flow, in 2016 he was elected to the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Simon Matskeplishvili is a member of the Oversight Committee of the European Society of Cardiology EORP, of the Certification and lab accreditation committee of the European Association of Cardiovascular imaging, of the Global quality solutions workgroup of the American College of Cardiology. He serves as an associate editor and editorial board member of the major international journals.

His interests include basic and clinical research in cardiology, angiogenesis and regenerative therapy, cardio-oncology, drug repurposing, artificial intelligence in medicine, research and treatment in COVID-19 and post-covid syndrome.
